Happy Crappy Holidays

I'm starting to get antsy about Thanksgiving. It's coming up way too fast for my liking. I'm not particularly fond of Thanksgiving or Christmas, mostly because you're forced to make small talk with people you only see once or twice a year, and you're fully expected to spend alllll day trying to do so. It's uncomfortable and I just don't like it. I wonder if the two family gatherings could maybe be combined into, say, Thanksmas or X-giving (Christ-giving just doesn't sound right. Besides, it already has a name, it's called communion). Around the middle of December would be good. Anyway, so we are going to my parent's for Thanksgiving and I know it's going to be some big ordeal. Yeah, I'm thankful for stuff, but let me be thankful in the comfort of my own home with no awkward silences. I don't even really like turkey or ham. And Christmas? Even bigger deal. I don't celebrate the birth of Christ (I almost started to get into why I don't, but realized that that is a completely different post. Let's just say I'm agnostic.). I celebrate because I have a child who thinks some fatty breaks in to leave crap she doesn't need (and will probably forget about after about 3 days) under the tree and in a big sock. My mother's rather large extended family that I usually celebrate with is very religious. I remember my aunt making a "Happy Birthday Jesus" cake one year. Not that it's a bad thing. They have something to believe in, and that's great. I respect their opinions and beliefs. They just don't know that I don't buy it... and I choose to keep it to myself. Why make the gatherings even more uncomfortable? Anyway... to make a long story short (even though you already got the extended version), I hate the holidays. They're depressing and awkward. Maybe I'll *mysteriously* disappear for the next month or so.
